My English is not very good, can I apply in a different language?
Since all projects rely on English as the common language, you have to apply in English as well. However, your level of English is not important! Don’t be afraid that we will not select you because you make spelling mistakes or don’t know too many words. It’s about what you try to tell us, not how you do it.
How can I change the Project in my profile?
Because the application form changes from Project to Project you have to have to start your application from the beginning. You can either sign up with a different email address or we can clear your application so that you are able to start over with your current login. Make sure that you save all documents you uploaded and texts you entered already on your computer. Once you have done so please use our help form here (dekeyserandfriends.org/application/helpform) to let us know that you would like to change projects. Please include your First name, Surname and email address and to which Project you'd like to switch. We will set up your new application and send you an email when it's ready.
Why do ask for my telephone number and Skype name?
We need your contact details, so that we can get in touch with you during the application process if necessary. For example, we usually interview a number of applicants during the final stage of the selection process either via phone or via Skype.
Who should I give as a reference?
During the final stages of a selection process we may want to talk to someone who knows you, to help us to get to know you a little better. Your reference should therefore be someone who knows you well and is willing to tell us about you and your personal qualities. So your reference can be a teacher or a professor for example, but also a relative or a close friend. That they know you well is more important , than their job or title. Please be aware that the person you reference must speak enough English or German to talk with us on the phone. If we contact your reference, we will send them an email first introducing ourselves and arranging a time for a conversation.
Is it better to send a photo, a video or write a text for questions 4, 5 and 6?
None of them is better than any other! You can send us only photos, only texts, only videos or a mix! Send us whatever you feel most comfortable with and whatever you feel you can answer the question best with. The reason we give you this choice is because we want to get to know you and we believe that this is easiest if you can answer in a format you personally like.
If you send us photos, please remember the instruction to add a short caption to your pictures to add some context for us.
I sent my application in, what happens now?
When the application deadline has passed we send all applications to our selection committee. The committee makes its selection usually within four weeks after the deadline. We will then contact you via email to notify you of the selection committee’s decision.
